| Abstract | Portrait and biographical sketch of William Grimes, a merchant and business executive of Kansas City, who was born in Connecticut in 1825 and started out as a merchant and cattle rancher. Description of his later career, coming to Kansas City in 1877 and in 1880 building "the fine stone business house on Delaware street, known as the 'Grimes Block,' after which he organized the dry goods jobbing house of Grimes, Woods, La Force & Co." housing the William B. Grimes Dry Goods Company founded in 1883. President and co-organizer of the Kansas City Electric Light Company, the Edison Electric Light Company of Kansas City, the American Bank Building Company, the Mercantile Exchange, and the Commercial Club, etc. |
