AbstractBiographical sketch of Dr. Johnston Lykins, a physician born in Virginia in 1800 and leaving for the West in 1829 as a Baptist missionary, arriving at the Shawnee Indian Mission on the Kansas side of Kansas City in 1831, then moving to Kansas City in 1851 and becoming its first legal mayor. Also organizer of "the first railroad meeting" locally and "the first president of the Mechanic's Bank," etc.
