AbstractPhoto and descriptions of Willard Winner (1849-1929), a Kansas City street railways and real estate developer experiencing a meteoric rise and fall in the 1880s-1890s. Native of Iowa coming to Kansas City in 1858 with his father and becoming a realtor developing the Pendleton Heights subdivision and then street railways to Independence and North Kansas City in the 1880s before losing most of his investments in the 1890s. Compared to J. C. Nichols as a (albeit unsuccessful) visionary of expansion for Kansas City to the north and east, becoming the namesake of Winner Road in Independence, Missouri.
