Born in Iowa in 1849 and raised in Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri before starting out as a teenage postoffice clerk. Later owner of his own real estate company and builder of "the Kansas City, Independence Park Railway, the Vine Street line, and [the beginning of] a bridge at the foot of Cherry Street" until an economic recession in 1882. |
