| Abstract | Photo and bio of Captain John Weller (1825-1884), a real estate developer and former riverboat captain. Born in Illinois in 1825 and coming to Jackson County, Missouri in 1854 as a farmer before operating "the Randolph steam ferry, four miles below Kansas City" out of Clay County, Missouri (piloting the steamboats Hattie Weller and J. R. Weller). Later moving to Platte County, Missouri and then Kansas City, building his residence at 1001 Oak Street and "the Nelson-Weller block, at the corner of Missouri avenue and Main street." |
