| Abstract | Biographical sketch of Charles Raber, a retired western freighter, brewery worker, and billiard hall keeper residing at 3818 Genesee Street. Born in Switzerland in 1841 and emigrating to Westport in 1855 with his parents before "form[ing] a partnership with Martin Keck to conduct a general freighting business" in 1862. Later "associated with the Helmerich's Western Brewery" here before becoming "connected with the billiard hall at the corner of Grand avenue and [15th Street]" and then building "the old Armory Hall at [15th Street] and Grand avenue." |
