Born in New York in 1859 and coming to Kansas City in 1879 as a printer with "office on Union Avenue, in the West Bottoms" before organizing railroads and trust companies here in the 1880s and pushing the Kansas City Southern Railway to its southern terminus at Port Arthur, Texas in 1897. |
