Blue River, Boat Landing
Blue River, Boat Landing
TitleBlue River, Boat Landing
DescriptionPostcard of Boat Landing at Blue River
Historical ArticleThis idyllic scene of the early 1900s shows the Blue river at 15th street. It was the only fishing and boating spot of any size for Kansas Citians at the time, easily accessible by street car or horse and buggy.

Boat passage on the Blue extended north to the Missouri river and south as far as Leeds. Cottages, some year-round dwellings, line both shores.

George Tucker remembers Blue river trips by canoe in 1903 and later in his new motor boat, from this spent to the Missouri river, then east past Jefferson City, to the Osage river, and up that picturesque stream.
