Convention Hall
Convention Hall
TitleConvention Hall
DescriptionPostcard of old Convention Hall building
Historical ArticleThe Convention hall shown here housed two national political conventions. Democrats met there in 1900 and nominated William Jennings Bryan for President Republicans, in 1928, chose Herbert Hoover.

The hall was built in 90 days when its predecessor, erected by popular subscription in 1899, burned on April 4, 1900. With the Democrats due to meet there July 4, pledges of $20,000 toward rebuilding were made while the fire raged. It was called Kansas City's finest hour when the hall was ready in time for the convention.

Old Convention hall served until the present Municipal Auditorium was complete in 1935. Then it was torn down and in time its site was covered by the Auditorium Plaza garage.
