| Title | Colonnade Apartments |
| Description | Poastcard of the Colonnade Apartments at 201-219 Armour Boulevard |
| Historical Article | The Colonnade apartments at 201-219 Armour were built in 1905 by William H. Collins, a veteran in the building field here, who pioneered a new type of apartment.
Collins built hundreds of small houses and many substantial apartment buildings. A floor arrangement he developed eliminated the long hall type of suites which were characteristic of the early-day flats.
The builder gave his name to two of his structures, the Collinwood apartments, 2501-19 Linwood (opposite St. Joseph Hospital), and the Colonnade, each a full block in length and each with deep front lawns.
With the Colonnade he built two small bungalows on both Wyandotte and Central streets to keep other apartments from coming too close.
The Colonnade was a 30-unit facility extending from Wyandotte to Central and was one continuous building with a common wall and fire walls between each unit. Each apartment had five rooms, with high beamed ceilings, two bedrooms and a maid's room with rear entrance. Each apartment had a front porch with decorative railing.
The Colonnade was sold and razed in 1963 for the new $1.5-million office building of the Commercial Union Assurance Companies. Owners at the time of the sale were William Asjes, Margaret Lowenthal and the Walter F. Labhart estate.
