| Historical Article | Leather belt in course of construction at factory of Geo. W. Webb Belting Co., Kansas City, Mo. is the title of an old promotional picture post card put out by a belting company located in the West Bottoms at 1302 Union Avenue.
The legend on the reverse side of the 1909 tinted card reads, The photograph pictures a section of our press room. This belt required the center cut from 200 hides or 10 carloads of steers. Our factory is located in Kansas City. We manufacture everything in the leather belting line, no order too small for our attention, no order too great for our capacity. Geo. W. Webb Belting Co., Kansas City, Mo. (Published in Germany.)
The belt pictured, according to the card, was being made for the Kansas City Cotton Mills in the Victor Building, and measured 56 inches wide and 100 feet long.
The Kansas City Stock Yards was booming at the time as were the packing houses and animal by-products companies, with their hides, tallow, grease, leather, soap, bone and fertilizer operations.
