TitleWalnut Street, North from 12th Street
DescriptionPostcard of Walnut Street, North from 12th Street
Historical ArticleA Full moon and lighted business buildings illuminate a night scene downtown of Walnut Street looking north. Five street cars and early-day automobiles move along Walnut, while women in long summer dresses stroll with their escorts along the sidewalks. The post card was published in color by the Southwest News Company between the years 1909 and 1914.

Above the street clock in the foreground is the sign Stag. The clock and sign called attention to the Stag Barber Shop and Bath House. The shop's advertisement in the 1909 city directory reads: First class in all its appointments. Turkish and Plain Baths. Altman Building, 11th and Walnut.

At the northwest corner of 11th and Walnut was the drugstore of William M. Federmann, 54 years a druggist in Kansas City.

Further north on Walnut at 1024-1026 is the sign of the Olney Music Company. In 1909 W. L. Hill was manager of the establishment that sold organs and pianos on the second and third floors of the building.

The Household Fair at 1012-1014 Walnut also had a big street sign. Furniture & Carpets, Ryder, Shane & Hyman is their listing in 1909.

In the background a large roof sign in electric lights tops the new 16-story Commerce Trust Company building. Its officers, according to the 1909 directory were: W. T. Kemper, president, H. C. Schwitzgebel, secretary, R. C. Menefree, treasurer, and J. C. Simpson, assistant secretary.
