The Junction
The Junction
TitleThe Junction
DescriptionPostcard of The Junction, 9th and Main Streets
Historical ArticleThe Junction at 9th, Main and Delaware is pictured on an old post card in black and white made from a photograph. The post card is captioned with a date of 1890, but the Montgomery collection at the Kansas City Public Library has this same photograph dated 1887.

On top of the Diamond Building (left side of card) is a sign that reads The Kansas City Times. The newspaper was located nearby, occupying the entire building at 804-06 Wyandotte.

Diamond Dental Parlors reads another sign on the first floor of the building.

Other signs across the street are those of a real estate broker and farther north the roof-top sign of Keith Furniture and Carpet Co. This was the establishment of the well-known furniture dealer, Robert Keith, whose business expanded through the years and occupied entire buildings farther south, at 11th and Grand, and later 13th and Baltimore.

Today the buildings pictured on the old post card are gone. The triangular wedge of ground occupied by the Diamond building is now an open parkway, with the dramatic bronze figure, Muse of the Missouri, and three large fountains dominating the scene.
