Main Street, North from 9th Street
Main Street, North from 9th Street
TitleMain Street, North from 9th Street
DescriptionPostcard of Main Street, North from 9th Street
Historical ArticleMain Street looking north from 9th is pictured on a postcard in black and white and was copied from an early day photograph.

A street car and one horse and buggy are the only traffic in sight on a street dotted with the awnings of small businesses which lined Main Street all the way to the Missouri River, City Hall, the county courthouse and City Market.

The tall building with cupola in the center of the card has the sign of the First National Bank. Other signs visible along the street are those of the Missouri Pacific Ticket Office; Campbell-Eaton, Pottery, Lamps & Glassware; Evans & Forsyth, and Gordon the Tailor.

Today all of the buildings shown on both sides of the street are gone. Occupying the space are the TenMain Center; The Muse of Missouri, statue honoring Lt. David W. Kemper killed in action in Italy during World War II, and the Commerce Towers.
