Back of photograph reads: This picture was taken in November of 1968 in the Missouri Valley Room of the Kansas City, Mo. Public Library. The picture shows a part of the glass case in which were displayed books, periodicals, and outlines written by Carl Betz, 1854-1898, pioneer in physical education. He introduced physical education into the public schools of Kansas City, Mo., in 1885. The medals shown were awarded to him by the Paris Exposition in 1889, and by the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893."
