Title: Emery, Bird, Thayer Company

Description: Postcard of the Emery, Bird, Thayer Company Building

Historical Article: Seven generations of Kansas Citians have shopped at this establishment and, its predecessor at Seventh and Main streets, and before that at a small corner store at Missouri avenue and Main.

Great-grandma tied her horse to a ring in the curb while she bought groceries, blankets, yard goods patterns, mitten and gloves, cooking pots, dishes, damask, glassware, jewelry, furniture, drugs, millinery, underwear, carpets and almost anything else she might need. The third floor tearoom with soft carpet, linen tablecloths and ceiling fans, was the scene of many a wedding breakfast, luncheon party, afternoon tea, or reception.

The promotional post card of the early 1900's shows horse-drawn vehicles, street cars and motor cars carrying customers to the doors.
