Hyatt Regency Hotel Skywalk Collapse

Description: A collection of photocopied newspaper articles, primarily from the Kansas City Star and Kansas City Times, detailing the collapse of the skywalk at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. During an evening tea dance on Friday, July 17, 1981, a four-story high walkway filled with revelers collapsed onto the second floor walkway which in turn collapsed, trapping dozens of people beneath concrete and debris. 114 people died in the incident, and more than 200 were injured. The articles focus on the event itself, the subsequent investigation into what went wrong, and the various lawsuits that were filed on behalf of the victims. Each article is annotated with its date and source of publication.
